Club Chronicles: Book Lovers Study Club promotes wellness
Members of the GFWC Book Lovers Study Club met at Russellville First United Methodist Church Oct. 9. Carolyn Porter, Shelia Upchurch and Rebecca Reeves were co-hostesses.
Club members were educated on the benefits of Holistic Harmony therapy by guest speaker Anna Carol Porter, fascial stretch therapist.
Most chronic back pain is associated with muscle tightness and joint stiffness. Fascia is the connective tissue system of the body that penetrates through and wraps around every muscle, nerve and organ in your body.
The first research into the effects of fascial stretch therapy commenced in 1997 by founder Ann Frederick. Research was conducted at the University of Arizona Medical School of Phoenix and the Fascia Research Society.
Porter explained FST is a pain-free therapy that improves mobility of nerves and flexibility of muscles and fascia. Other methods focus on isolated muscle stretching.
Some members volunteered for a demonstration.
Information regarding the importance of having blood pressure checked was presented, as well. If your blood pressure is high, it is putting extra strain on your arteries and on your heart. Members were given an opportunity to have their blood pressure checked before the meeting adjourned.
Final plans were made for the second annual Walk the Road to Wellness scheduled for Oct. 26 at the RHS Field House and Track. Committees met to plan registration and refreshments and assemble information packages and T-shirts for the participants.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9 a.m.
A report was given by Patricia Cox, president, on the Tablescape for a Cure benefit held at North Highlands Church of Christ. Book Lovers Study Club donated $200 and decorated a table for the event. There were 17 tables beautifully decorated, a fashion show, great speakers and a delicious brunch served by local volunteers of the Russellville Fire Department.
Plans for the annual Christmas Holiday Tour of Homes were discussed.
This year’s tour will feature five homes beautifully decorated for the holidays. They include the homes of Beth and Barry Rhea, Laura and Matt Kroger, Lisa and Scott Hovater, Sherene and Phillip Wade and Chase Sparks.
The tour will be held Dec. 15 from 1:30-4 p.m.
