FCBOE preps for school year with personnel changes
With school starting up Aug. 7, the Franklin County Board of Education has been hard at work to ensure students are receiving the best education from the best possible employees.
At the Board of Education meeting July 30, the board approved the hiring of 13 new employees for the 2019-2020 school year. All new hires will begin Aug. 1.
“We are very lucky to have such great teachers in Franklin County,” said Franklin County Superintendent Greg Hamilton.
Tharptown Elementary added Brooke Williams as a temporary teacher and Sheena Johnson as an elementary teacher. The high school added Ryan Champion as a comprehensive social science teacher for grades seven through 12 with coaching duties and Sherry Parker as a half-time science teacher. Hulon Heath will serve both Tharptown elementary and high school as a bus driver.
Phil Campbell High School hired Kelsey Pruitt as an English teacher, and the elementary school hired Patricia Nix as a special education aide.
Maegan Berryman will begin her role as the new East Franklin Junior High School principal. Taylor Hamilton will begin as an English learners aide with coaching duties at Red Bay High School, and Jimmy Johnson will serve as a remedial interventionist as well as band director and music teacher at Vina High School.
Misty Henderson will work as a special education aide for the system, and Savannah Latham will work as a speech language pathologist. Jason Evans was hired on as a part-time aviation teacher for a $17,500 contract amount, effective Aug. 12.
Chassidy Winstead will transfer from special education aide at Phil Campbell Elementary School to the high school. Nichole Ergle will transfer from an elementary teacher at Tharptown Elementary School to guidance counselor at the high school, replacing Rhonette Bailey, who will retire effective Oct. 1.
The Board of Education also accepted the resignation of Richard Maggerise as a history teacher and coach at Red Bay High School, Jonathan Odom as a math teacher at Tharptown High School and Melissa Askew as child nutrition program bookkeeper.
