Weatherford Library hosts identity theft workshop
May 14 from 1-2 p.m. the Weatherford Library in Red Bay is providing a workshop titled Protecting Your Identity and Other Assets.
Pat Smith from the Franklin County Extension Office will be hosting the program that she said is part of the FDIC Money Smart Program, which is new to Franklin County.
“Most people know a little about identity theft, but we need to remind them of things they need to do,” Smith said.
The key takeaway, Smith said, will be for people to be aware of their assets and risks and to reduce those risks and avoid potential harm.
She will be discussing identity theft and fraud and how to deter, detect and defend against them; insurance and how it works – the different types and how to get it; and proper record-keeping.
This program is open to anyone, but Smith said the Extension likes to make senior citizens particularly aware because they are the most vulnerable to identity theft and fraud.
