RHS golfers qualify for sub-state

The Russellville High School golf teams continued their seasons and advanced to sub-state with qualifying scores in section play.

The RHS boys’ team, coached by Patrick Odom, finished second in Class 5A, Section 4, at the Gunter’s Landing Golf Course in Guntersville April 29. The team, made up of Eric Boutwell, Jaceton Murray, Carson Reeves and Lucas McNutt, shot 317 and trailed only the Guntersville High School team, which finished with a 312.

Arab with 323 and Scottsboro with 334 were also good enough to qualify for sub-state. Armstrong of Hamilton High School finished as top individual with a score of 77.

Sub-state for the boys’ North 4 group, which includes the qualifiers from Sections 3 and 4, will also be held in Guntersville but at Eagle’s Nest Golf Course.

In 4A-5A girls’ Section 4 play, Russellville finished in fourth place to qualify for sub-state. Coaches Monica and Chris Moon’s RHS girls – Josie Willis, Morgan Moon, Ashlyn DeArman and Alayna Fish – shot a 301, while Randolph School took the top spot with a 224, at the Point Mallard Golf Course in Decatur April 30. Fairview finished in second place with a 281 total, and Good Hope finished one shot better than the Golden Tigers with an even 300.

Top individual score in section play was an 82 by Jasper’s Alley Waldrop.

North 2 Sub-State was set to take place at the Robert Trent Jones Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe.  Teams included will represent Sections 3 and 4 of 4A-5A.

Sub-state teams in both boys’ and girls’ golf will be trying to advance to the AHSAA State Tournament, which is scheduled to be held May 13-14 in Prattville on the courses at RTJ Capitol Hill. Sub-state results were not available by press deadline.
