The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce plays numerous roles in the local communities, and one of those is promoting tourism throughout the county. The chamber supports businesses and attractions, as well, and according to board of directors’ treasurer Selena Jackson, there is plenty in the county to promote.

“I believe Franklin County has a wealth of amenities for every interest,” she said.

Some of those amenities include the Dismals Canyon, the Historic Roxy Theater and the many festivals and parades hosted in the county every year.

“The lakes, creeks and the beauty of the local parks are a nature lover’s paradise that allow for boating, fishing and sight-seeing,” Jackson added.

Being a part of the Chamber has broadened Jackson’s knowledge of Franklin County. She said she has learned about companies in the county she wasn’t familiar with and has gotten the chance to get reacquainted with some popular spots like the Dismals Canyon and Cypress Cove.

Jackson is on several committees within the Chamber and helps with many of the events. The Watermelon Festival is one of her favorites for many reasons – like enjoying the watermelon-themed contests and getting to work with the performers through her hospitality role.

“The excitement of the Watermelon Festival and historic Roxy Theater brings music lovers from far and wide to enjoy the local flavor of musicians and songwriters,” she said.

This is her last year to serve on the Chamber Board of Directors, and she said she has truly enjoyed it.

“I have had the best time and made some lifelong friends,” Jackson said. “It’s hard to believe it’s been six years.”

Jackson grew up in Franklin County and has worked for 20 years with The Cottages, which her family owns.

“Although Franklin County is a wonderful place to visit, the small town feel and the willingness to lend a hand to neighbors is what makes Franklin County home.  I’m so proud to be a part of such a great community,” she said.

She is married to Michael Jackson, head football coach at Red Bay High School.

Her son Mason Willis is a special education teacher at Russellville Middle School and coaches middle school tennis and basketball as well as varsity football. His wife Kassidy Willis works at First Metro Bank as a CSR/lending assistant.
