RHS battles tough week with five losses

Austin 8, Russellville 2

The Lady Golden Tigers went to Decatur March 28 and fell to the Austin Black Bears.

Russellville got hits from Tori Tiffin, Megan Warhurst and Katie Skidmore. Tiffin’s hit was a double, and she also had two stolen bases. Karlie Moore reached base on a walk and also scored a run for RHS.

Krista Sikes got the start in the pitching circle and went 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs before Warhurst came on in relief. Warhurst allowed no runs or hits and struck out three batters.

Ardmore 7, Russellville 1

Play began for Russellville in the Sparkman Tournament held in Huntsville with a game against Ardmore March 29.

Russellville was outhit 14-2, and the RHS hits were by Jenna Whitfield and Autumn Logan. Madison Murray also reached base on a walk, and Whitfield swiped a stolen base. Logan had the lone Russellville RBI, and Whitfield scored the run.

Chalea Clemmons started the game and pitched one inning, allowing three earned runs on five hits. Warhurst came on and pitched six innings, and she allowed nine hits and three runs. She struck out five and walked two.

Danville 11, Russellville 1

The Lady Golden Tigers continued to struggle in game two Friday night. Danville scored in each of the game’s six innings and outhit RHS 10-5.

Russellville hits were by Tiffin, Whitfield, Warhurst, Makala O’Neal and Alivia Clemmons. Whitfield also drew a walk, and Lauren Rogers scored the Russellville run on a Clemmons RBI.

Sikes started and pitched one inning. She gave up five runs on five hits before Chalea Clemmons came on in relief. Chalea Clemmons allowed six runs, with three being earned. She allowed five hits and struck out one batter.

Sparkman 19, Russellville 10

Action continued in Huntsville Saturday as Sparkman hosted Russellville in a high-scoring contest.

Sparkman added seven runs in the game’s final inning and outhit RHS 20-11.

Alivia Clemmons led Russellville with three hits and four RBIs. She had a home run and a double and scored two runs. Moore also homered for RHS, and Tiffin added a double. Moore walked three times, scored three runs and drove in two runs.

Murray added two hits, while Whitfield, Warhurst, O’Neal and Chalea Clemmons all had one hit each. Warhurst, Chalea Clemmons and Sikes did the pitching for Russellville.

Hillcrest 5, Russellville 4

The Sparkman Tournament wrapped up Saturday for RHS with a close loss to the Patriots from Tuscaloosa.

Russellville jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, but Hillcrest scored five runs in the fourth to take the lead. RHS tried for a comeback late in the game with two runs in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to get the victory.

Russellville got hits from Warhurst, O’Neal, Moore and AJ Taylor. Taylor had two RBIs, and the Russellville pitchers were Sikes and Warhurst.

Russellville 11, Colbert Heights 1

The Lady Golden Tigers got back into the win column and improved their record to 10-12 on the season with a win over the Wildcats April 1.

Warhurst got the start and the win by going three innings in the circle. She allowed no runs, hits or walks, and she struck out five. Sikes allowed no earned runs in two innings of work.

Alivia Clemmons, Logan and Moore all homered for RHS. Logan was 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs. Alivia Clemmons and Taylor had two hits apiece, while Skidmore, Murray, Warhurst and O’Neal all had one hit each.
