4-H boosts school morale

Members of Tharptown High School’s 4-H Club took the initiative March 11-15 to plan a week of positivity for the school and called it 4-H Hearth, Health and Happiness Week.

“The 4-H Club members developed and implemented this idea on their own, applying the leadership skills we’ve been developing in 4-H. I am very proud of their efforts,” said 4-H Extension agent Janet Lovelady.

Lovelady said the club started the year off focusing on leadership skills and divided into committees that came up with project ideas. From those ideas, they selected this one.

“I think everybody just always needs a little bit of encouragement, especially nowadays with everything that’s going on,” said club member Addisyn Frederick.

Throughout the week, club members delivered inspirational quotes during the morning announcements like “Your value doesn’t decrease based on somebody’s inability to see your worth” and “Every day might not be good, but there is good in every day.”

“We tried to pick quotes that really represented our school from what we see and what people needed to hear,” said club member Savana Franks.

Each day of the week also had a dress-up theme, like Pajama Day, Twin Day, Wacky Wednesday, Career Day and Flashback Friday.

Club members made posters with affirming words they hung in the hallways and popular hang-out spots. They also posted sticky notes with encouraging and affirming statements on their classmates’ lockers throughout the week.

Club member Olivia Ergle said there was a lot of positive feedback from students throughout the week. She said students were posting about it on social media and talking about how much the school needed and appreciated the encouragement.
