Wildcat boys sweep Phillips

The Tharptown Wildcats improved to 6-1 with a sweep over the Phillips Bears Friday. Tharptown survived a late-inning scare to go on to beat Phillips 17-7.

Tharptown jumped out to a big 7-0 lead but allowed the Bears to claw their way back into the game late. Phillips cut the Wildcats’ lead to 8-7 going into bottom of the sixth and final innings; Tharptown, however, exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Colton Simmons got the big sixth inning started with an RBI double, scoring Travis Staten. Briley Kerby, Hunter White, Jayden Mitchell, Hunter Motes, Carson Petree, Britton Kennamore and Simmons would all cross the plate in the sixth.

Greyson Studdard had a big day at the plate with two hits, including a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Kennamore also had an eye for the ball with two hits and three RBIs, and he scored a run.

White and Mitchell scored three runs. Petree and Simmons scored two runs.

Kennemore and Studdard combined for ten strikeouts from the mound – five each.

There were 19 errors in the game; Phillips committed 11 errors, and Tharptown had eight fielding miscues.

In game two, Tharptown overcame a 4-1 deficit to come from behind and win 12-7.

White led Tharptown from the lead-off spot, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring two runs.

Studdard and Kennamore both had two RBIs, and Studdard scored two runs as well. Carson Petree had a hit and an RBI and scored twice.

Three pitchers combined for ten strikeouts: Jayden Mitchell struck out four, Studdard one and Jackson Clement five.
