RCS honors teachers, students
Kaitlyn Balding receives recognition for her ACT score achievements.
Olivia Vincent, Felix Garcia and Nevaeh Parks receive recognition for the accomplishments with the Garden Cub poster contest.
The Russellville High School baseball team receives recognition for placing second at state.
The Russellville City Schools Board recognizes Rebecca Parrish for her achievement at the state FBLA competition.
The Russellville High School baseball team was recognized for being the 2018 Class 5A State runners-up and bringing the red map back to RCS.
Rebecca Parrish was recognized for placing first in state in the business calculations category of the State Future Business Leaders of America Competition.
Kaitlyn Balding was recognized for the state recognition she received for her ACT scores through the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
Three students were recognized for their participation in the National Garden Club Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest that was sponsored by the Cultura Garden Club. Olivia Vincent won first place at the state level and first place in the Deep South Region Poster Contest for grades three through five. Felix Garcia won first place at the state level for first-grade students. Nevaeh Parks won first place at the state level and first place in the Deep South Region Poster Contest for grades one through two.
Barry Carroll with Capacity Educational Services recognized all of the educators who participated in the Leadership Academy.
Other actions taken at the meeting included:
- Approving trip requests for the RHS varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders during June 4-8 to attend cheer camp at Auburn University; the RMS cheerleaders to attend cheer camp at the University of North Alabama June 12-15; and the RHS Marching Hundred Band July 1-7 for the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C.
- Approving the RHS Marching Hundred Auxiliaries to host the Watermelon Run Aug. 18, the RHS Band Parent Association to host the Northwest Alabama Marching Classic Sept. 29 and the RHS basketball team to host its annual basketball camp June 7.
- Approving the contract between the University of North Alabama and Russellville Elementary School for facility usage for the AMSTI-UNA 2018 Summer Institute Training to be held in June.
- Reviewing two bids for renovations to the RMS gymnasium, from Brad Slater Construction and Hovaters Metal Works.
- Approving the CNP agreements for the Seamless Summer Feeding Program and the Summer Food Service Agreement with the City of Russellville.
- Approving the leave of absence of Kathryn Montgomery, a teacher at RHS, from May 17-25.
- Approving the retirement of Tracy Ward, a teacher at WES, effective June 1, and Judy Miller, CNP at RHS, effective Aug. 1.
- Approving the resignation of Wayne Wilkes, a teacher at RHS, effective May 25; Paula Young, assistant principal at RES, effective June 30; and the revision of previously approved resignation of Mark Heaton from June 30 to May 31.
- Approving the transfer of Patrice Smith from English/drama teacher at RMS to English/drama teacher at RHS and Gabe Willis from science teacher to engineering/science teacher at RHS.
- Approving the employment of Jill Bonds as an English teacher at RHS contingent upon issuance of Alabama teaching certificate; Derek Blagburn as a system-wide special education teacher; Jeremie Kinney as a counselor at RMS effective June 4; Tony Bonds as assistant principal/history teacher at RMS effective July 24 contingent upon issuance of Alabama Teaching Certificate; and Wes Pouncey as assistant principal of RHS effective June 1.
- Approving volunteers Jennifer Willis with RHS Marching Hundred Auxiliaries; Chase Gilmer with RMS football; and Bo Lloyd with RMS football.
