RPD nabs two theft suspects
2018 started off an eventful note in downtown Russellville. Mayor David Grissom was one of the first eye witnesses of a theft in the alley behind the Reed Building apartments and The Bricks Inn and Restaurant Jan. 1.
Grissom said he heard a noise outside while he was in the apartment building doing some work that morning.
“I received a call that morning about some water issues at the apartments, and I was working on that when I heard a noise in the back alley,” he said.
Grissom said he looked outside and saw two people loading items into an older model red Dodge pickup truck. He called the police.
According to Russellville Police Department Sgt. Jake Tompkins, officers had responded to a call from another local business for a theft that had occurred early that morning, where several items were taken. Officers proceeded to interview witnesses and other community members and were able to locate two suspects the next day.
Around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2, RPD took Randy Hill and Virginia Wilson into custody. The two suspects were charged with theft of property first degree. According to Tompkins, the stolen property had already been disposed of at Tennessee Valley Recycling.
Grissom thanked the responding RPD officers for their quick response.
