RMS food drive sees big results
Russellville Middle School made a big impact on the lives of local families last year with their 2017 Food Drive. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the Students Against Destructive Decisions teamed up and collected a total of 2,032 cans for the community.
“I challenged the students to raise over 1,500 cans this year. They dominated that challenge and more,” SADD sponsor Derek Gober said.
It is the second-highest total to date, according to FCCLA advisor Rachel Agee.
“We are so grateful for all students, faculty, and community members who participated in the 2017 Food Drive. We will be able to make a big impact in the community,” Agee said.
The project was student-led, and it was a sincere, generous effort, Agee said.
“It was a great feeling to see so many of my peers help other families by donating. It is important to help families have a good time during the holidays without worry,” FCCLA president Kathy Sanchez said.
FCCLA treasurer Anna Skidmore, SADD president Conner Byars and SADD secretary Madeline Cooper all agreed that helping others through projects like the food drive is important and can make a big difference.
