Event promises free supplies for teachers

Medical Associates of the Shoals will host a free W.C. Handy Music Festival event from 6-8 p.m. July 22; being tabbed “Doctors and Teachers in Harmony,” local educators are set to benefit. Certified teachers in attendance who teach in Colbert, Franklin or Lauderdale counties will receive a free bag of classroom supplies, including dry erase markers, flash drives, disinfecting wipes, markers, sticky notes, card stock and paper.

Supplies will be available for the first 1,000 teachers in attendance, with each goody bag valued at just under $25.

“Both of my parents were teachers, so I totally understand the challenges and rewards of being an educator,” said Josh Vacik, a physician with Medical Associates of the Shoals. “Studies show that better education leads to better health, and we want to do what we can to help our teachers as they encourage and motivate our children to achieve the best possible education.”

The concert, featuring music by Deja Vu, will be held in the medical office building parking lot at 1120 S. Jackson Highway, Sheffield. The stage and seating area will be under a large tent. The event is free, and the entire community is invited.
