Red Bay Valedictorian: Morgan Pierce
“I was extremely excited. It’s something I’ve worked for my whole life.”
Claiming the title of Red Bay High School Class of 2017 valedictorian was a priority for Pierce because “my parents have always stressed academics above just about anything else,” Pierce said. “It’s taken a lot of dedication and hard work.”
Pierce, who has been at Red Bay since sixth grade after elementary years at Belmont, said she is eager to attend Samford University in Birmingham and begin her pursuit of a doctorate of pharmacy and master’s in business administration. “I have a passion for chemistry and math, and I have always wanted to be in the medical field. It really interests me,” Pierce said. “My mom’s a nurse, so I have always been interested in healthcare.”
She said she hopes to eventually return to the Red Bay area and open her own pharmacy.
Pierce has been an active student-athlete while at Red Bay, participating in basketball, softball in track, and she has also been involved in robotics, Lions Club, FBLA, SADD, HOSA, Beta Club, Science Club, English Club and Spanish Club. She is also senior class vice president and an ambassador.
Pierce said she has thrived in the close-knit atmosphere of smalltown Red Bay. “People here really care about you and what your plans are,” Pierce said.
She is the daughter of Chris and Pam Pierce.
