County track athletes compete at state

Among county track and field athletes in Franklin County, state appearance came this year for Belgreen and Vina.

The Belgreen Bulldogs 4X100-meter relay team finished sixth in the state in Class 1A competition Saturday. The team is made up of Katie Dempsey, Emmie Scott, Emma Dempsey and Gracie Dempsey, who ran the relay in 57.20 seconds.

Annabelle Upton of Vina High School wins the Class 1A state championship in discus.

In Vina, track star Annabelle Upton won the Class 1A state championship in the discus Friday. Upton won the championship while also setting a personal best record, throwing the discuss 97 feet and 9 inches.

“I am very proud of Annabelle,” said coach Paul Humphres. “She is a hard worker and a great student-athlete. She deserves it.

“She represents Vina High School in the best way possible.”
