James Oneal “Neal” Childers

James Oneal “Neal” Childers, 90, passed away April 30 at ECM Hospital, Florence. He was born in Franklin County and had worked as a material handler at NTN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a MP. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and served as deacon for 55 years.

Services will be May 2 at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay. Ministers will be Bro. Clint Holcombe and Mark Swindle. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery, Hodges.

Survivors are five children, H.C. Childers and wife Shirley of Fulton, James Acey Childers and wife Sandy of Hamilton, Gary Childers and wife Renee of Tuscumbia, Glenn Childers and wife Sonya Brooks of Hodges and Tammy Scott and husband Tim of Hodges; nine grandchildren, Chayne Childers and wife Misty, Tracey Childers, Brad Childers and wife Rhonda Loveless, Chris Childers and wife Jessica, Adrian Childers, Crystal Kulungian and husband Tim, Nick Childers and wife Savannah, Laura Hopson and husband Kyle and Colton Scott; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Warner of Florida; one brother, Gwen Childers, Old Hickory, Tenn.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hardin Childers, a great-granddaughter, Lilly Belle Kulungian, seven brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law, Sarah Childers.

Pallbearers will be Chayne Childers, Colton Scott, Tim Scott, Brad Childers, Chris Childers and Nichalos Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Hopson and Dennis Sell.

Visitation will be May 1 from 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
