Sign up now for Distinguished Young Woman program

Every August, the Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship Program gives 12th grade girls across Franklin County – and Colbert and Lauderdale counties – the chance to exhibit their character, personalities, beauty and more as part of the Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship Program. Although the 2017 program is still a few months away, information meetings and registration are going on now.

An information and registration meeting will be offered in Russellville at the A.W. Todd Center April 26 at 3:30 p.m. Two meetings will be offered at First Metro Bank in Muscle Shoals, as well – April 19 and May 17 at 3:30 p.m. Distinguished young women may also apply online at ajm.org.

The 2016-17 Franklin County DYW was Ana Castillo, of Belgreen High School. She described the program as “truly an amazing experience.”

The DYW program will be held Aug. 5 at Norton Auditorium on the campus of The University of North Alabama. Participants will compete for cash scholarships as well as many other scholarships to colleges and universities, and each county winner will have the opportunity to represent her county at the state program in Montgomery in January 2018.

In addition to the DYW program, girls entering the 10th and 11th grades have the opportunity to be “DYW Little Sisters.”

For more information on DYW or the Little Sisters, contact Susan Hargett at 256-710-9239 or email her at northwestdyw@gmail.com.
