School stays busy as year winds down

Greg Hamilton, FCBOE Superintendent

The past four months have been extremely busy for me. The transition to superintendent has been smooth thanks to a great office staff, a board that is easy to work with and great employees in the Franklin County school system.

There are lots of things happening this spring in our schools. Testing is coming to a close, and state monitoring will be completed by the end of April. I am anticipating great test scores and a fantastic report from state monitoring due to the hard work of everyone.

We have seen great athletic success this spring season across many of our school sports. Congratulations to the Phil Campbell High and Vina High baseball teams for making the playoffs, and congratulations to Red Bay boys and Belgreen girls for winning the Franklin County track meet. Best of luck to all our spring sports teams and athletes.

As school winds down, we are continuing to work on capital projects at Tharptown Elementary and Vina High school.

As graduation approaches, let me be the first to congratulate all the seniors on their accomplishments. This graduation is extra special for me: it is my first as the new superintendent, and I have a daughter graduating this year. I am honored in both regards.
