Red Bay loses two at the beach

By Bart Moss for the FCT

The Red Bay Tigers spent their spring break week at the beach playing baseball. The Tigers dropped two games, one to Winfield and the other to Baldwin County.

Winfield 6, Red Bay 1

The Red Bay Tigers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 6-1 loss to the Winfield Pirates on Monday.

Winfield scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and that was all they would end up needing to get the win over Red Bay. The Tigers got their lone run in the bottom of the second inning, when Chandler Allen scored on an RBI single by Landen Burgett.

The Pirates picked one more run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning.

Winfield outhit Red Bay 9-3, and the Tigers committed two errors in the field.

Kolby Bragwell took the loss for Red Bay Tigers. He went six innings, giving up four runs and six hits and striking out two.

Burgett, Bragwell and Allen each collected one hit to lead Red Bay Tigers.

Baldwin County 6, Red Bay 3

A five-run fourth inning was all Baldwin County need to come back and hold onto a win over the Red Bay Tigers last week.

Red Bay opened by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning and held onto the lead until the bottom of the fifth before succumbing to Baldwin County.

Cade McKinney and Hayden Murray scored Red Bay’s first two runs on a two-RBI shot to left field by Bragwell.

Baldwin County scored a run in the bottom of the third inning to cut Red Bay’s lead to 2-1. The Tigers struck back in the top of the fourth inning, when Jacob Lane scored on a fielder’s choice.

Baldwin County took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs.

Both teams got five hits in the game. Red Bay committed three errors in the field.

Burroughs and Blake Hester both got two hits for the Tigers. Bragwell had two RBIs.
