Lady Bulldogs knock off Lady Bobcats

The Belgreen Bulldogs scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the Phil Campbell Bobcats and win 7-1.

Belgreen had 13 hits in the game, to the Bobcats one hit.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a Kelsey Wilson double scoring Katie Dempsey.

The Bobcats tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Emily Swinney scored on a fielder’s choice.

Belgreen retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shellie Barber scored on an RBI single by Emmie Scott. The Bulldogs began to pull away in the bottom of the fifth inning when Cortney Williams scored on an RBI single by Wilson. Camie Terrell and Wilson scored on a two RBI double by Barber to make the score 5-1 Belgreen.

Belgreen added two more in the bottom of the sixth inning when Katie Dempsey scored on a single by Terrell and Williams scored on a double by Emma Dempsey to make the score 7-1.

Katie Dempsey went two for four with two runs scored. Williams went two for three with two runs scored, and Terrell went three for four with an RBI and a run scored. Wilson went two for four with two RBIs and a run scored. Barber went two for three with two RBIs and a run scored.

Katie Thomas picked up the Bobcats’ lone hit, and Olivia Knight got the lone run.

Emma Dempsey got the win for Belgreen.

The Bulldogs also won the Covenant Christian tournament. They scored 43 total runs in the tournament, including five home runs – Cortney Williams (3), Katie Dempsey (1), and Kacy Wilson (1). Emma Dempsey threw a perfect game over the weekend and gave up only four hits in the entire tournament.
