Bobcats sneak past Panthers

By Bart Moss for the FCT

Phil Campbell 4, Hackleburg 3

The Phil Campbell Bobcats scored a run in the first inning, a run in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead and held on as the Hackleburg Panthers mounted a late comeback bid to win 4-3.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Chloe Roberson scoring Kenner Scott. They scored again in the bottom of the second inning, when Karley Ergle scored on an error by the Hackleburg shortstop.

Leeah Jackson gave the Bobcats a 4-0 lead when she hit a 2-run homerun to left field, scoring Caitlynn Mills. Mills had reached on a single the previous at-bat.

Hackleburg scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to give the Bobcats a scare, but Phil Campbell held on for the win.

The Bobcats had five hits in the game. Katie Thomas, Mills, Jackson, Roberson, and Ergle had one hit each.

Emily Swinney got the win for Phil Campbell, pitching six and two-thirds innings and giving up four hits and three runs, walking two and striking out four. Mills got the save for the Bobcats.
