Belgreen, Tharptown, Phil Campbell pick up big wins

Belgreen 75, Phillips 39

Thanks to some early hot three-point shooting by Brant Bragwell, the Belgreen Bulldogs had no problem with the Phillips Bears, winning 75-39.

Bragwell hit six three pointers in the first half, including five in a row, to help Belgreen to 30-point halftime advantage over Phillips 51-31. The Bulldogs cruised to the win.

Bragwell had a game-high 24 points. He was followed by Mason Bragwell with 14 points and Joseph Welch with ten points. Seth Taylor finished with seven points, Payton Scott had six points, Grayson Moore and Shane Devaney had four points each, and Logan Seay, Eli Hiser, and Adam Green had two points each.

Phil Campbell 56, Hamilton 49

A strong second half led the Phil Campbell Bobcats to a 56-49 win over the Hamilton Aggies. The Bobcats trailed the Aggies 31-25 in the first half. Phil Campbell outscored Hamilton 31-18 in the second half to get the big win.

Peyton Thomas led Phil Campbell with 21 points. Thomas was followed by Hayden Copeland with ten points. Rhett Benford finished with nine points, Thomas Baker with eight points, Gage Roberson with six points and Jacob Anthony with two points.

Tharptown 57, Shoals Christian 22

The Tharptown Wildcats outscored the Shoals Christian Flame 22-5 in the first quarter of game one of the Times Daily Classic and were never threatened, going on to win 57-22.

Mikey Rosson led Tharptown with 17 points. Levi McCormack and Matt Hall had ten points each. Winston Nolen finished with six points, Alex Argueta and Braden Key had four points each, T.J. McDonald had three points, Cole Daniel had two points, and Misael Saldana finished with one point.

Belgreen 55, Smithville (MS) 36

The Belgreen Bulldogs traveled across the state line last week to score a win over Smithville, Miss., 55-36. Belgreen led Smithville 8-6 after the first quarter and 25-16 at halftime. Belgreen still led by ten at the end of the third quarter, 39-29, before pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Mason Bragwell led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Jacob Mayberry and Joseph Welch had nine points each, Brant Bragwell had six points, Payton Scott and Logan Seay had three points each, and Adam Green, Grayson Moore and Shane Devaney all had two points in the game.

Tharptown 76, Vina 47

The Tharptown Wildcats powered past the Vina Red Devils in the second half last week to take a 76-47 win.

Tharptown led Vina 18-12 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 38-30 by halftime. Tharptown blew past the Red Devils in the third quarter, outscoring Vina 24-12, to make the score 62-42 at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Red Devils 14-5 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.

Every player on the Tharptown roster got in the scoring column, with Mikey Rosson leading the way with 16 points. He was followed by Carson Petree and Levi McCormack with 12 and 11 points respectively. Braden Key and Matt Hall had eight points each. Joel Mojica and Cole Daniel (6), T.J. McDonald (5) and Dakota Nolen and Misail Saldana (2) also scored for the Wildcats.

Vina had four players in double figures with Clay Allison and Corbin Triplett scoring 12 points each. Austin Harper (11), Tyler Renfrow (10) and Blake Hardin (2) also scored for Vina.

Sulligent 55, Red Bay 41

Sulligent outscored Red Bay in all four quarters as they defeated the Tigers 55-41 in the area game. Sulligent led Red Bay 8-7 at the end of the third quarter and led 23-16 at halftime. Sulligent extended their lead to 34-26 at the end of the third quarter.

Colton Corum led Red Bay with 14 points. Gath Weatherford finished with eight points, Aeron Moore had six points, Hunter Bays had five points, and Peyton Green and Dylan Pearson finished with four points each.

Lexington 73, Phil Campbell 62

A sluggish second half doomed the Phil Campbell Bobcats as they fell to the Lexington Golden Bears 73-62 last Monday.

Phil Campbell led Lexington at the end of the first quarter 13-9. The Golden Bears closed the gap to 28-25 by halftime. Lexington took the lead on a strong third quarter outscoring Phil Campbell 20-11 to take a 45-39 lead. Both teams got hot from behind the arch and spent a lot of time at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Phil Campbell hit four three-pointers and went 7-for-11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Lexington hit three three-pointers and went 13-22 from the free throw line in the final period of play.

In the end Lexington outscored the Bobcats 28-23 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Hayden Copeland led Phil Campbell with 20 points, followed by Peyton Thomas with 17 points. Rhett Benford finished with eight points, Thomas Baker with six points, Jacob Anthony and Gage Roberson had three points each, and Brody Nix scored two points.

Hackleburg 62, Tharptown 59

The Tharptown Wildcats couldn’t overcome a sluggish second quarter in their 62-59 loss to the Hackleburg Panthers last week.

Tharptown jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead over Hackleburg. The Panthers came out in a half court press and forced several Wildcat turnovers in the second quarter. Hackleburg outscored Tharptown 24-10 in the second quarter to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Tharptown closed the gap to 43-40 by the end of the fourth quarter but played the Panthers to a stalemate in the final period of play.

Mikey Rosson led Tharptown with 22 points. He was followed by Levi McCormack with 12 points and Cole Daniel with ten points. Alex Argueta had six points, Matt Hall finished with five points, and Miguel Saldana had two points.

Sulligent 74, Phil Campbell 64

The Phil Campbell Bobcats fell to the Sulligent Blue Devils Friday night in an area matchup 74-64.

Phil Campbell led Sulligent by two points, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter. Sulligent outscored Phil Campbell 17-10 in the second quarter to take 30-25 halftime lead. Sulligent extended their lead by three to 48-40 at the end of the third quarter. The Blue Devils topped the Bobcats in a high scoring fourth quarter, 26-24, to take the win.

Peyton Thomas led Phil Campbell with 26 points. He was followed by Rhett Benford with 19 points. Hayden Copeland finised with seven points, Jacob Anthony and Thomas Baker had four points each, Brody Nix had three points and Gage Roberson finished with one point.

Cherokee 75, Vina 68

The Cherokee Indians defeated the Vina Red Devils 75-68 last week. Austin Harper led Vina with 18 points. He was followed by Tyler Renfrow with 15 points.
