Officer-involved shooting kills one from Red Bay

According to authorities, a suspect in a traffic stop last week was killed during an officer-involved shooting, a man who hailed from Red Bay.

Derek Lynn Scott, 33, of Tuscumbia, originally from Red Bay, was shot by Tuscumbia officers when he pulled a gun and pointed at the officers during a traffic stop.

Reports indicate the man was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped by members of the Tuscumbia Police Department around 1:30 a.m. Dec. 2 on Woodmont Avenue.

The incident is under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation, at the request of the Tuscumbia Police Department. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Colbert County District Attorney.

Scott’s body is reported to have been taken to Huntsville for autopsy.
