The Spruce Pine community hosted its 8th annual Spruce Pine Day celebration Oct. 15. The annual event is organized and orchestrated by the Spruce Pine Historical Society. Historical Society member and event emcee Gail Motes said they had a great turnout even in the face of the Alabama football schedule.

“We had a few snags along the way, but overall we are very pleased with this year’s event,” said Motes.

Spruce Pine Day boasts a day of fun and festivities for people of all ages. Community members in the surrounding areas held yard sales as an added draw for the occasion.

Members of the Historical Society served food, held an antique car show and hosted a slate of local bands. Bounce houses were set up for children to play.

Headlining the festivities was local band KREEK, members of which include Steve Loveless, Vic Keller, Wayne Burroughs and James Copeland. “Some of our members are from the area and let us know about the festival. We enjoy playing around the community and had a great time playing Spruce Pine Day,” said Loveless.

Spruce Pine Day is hosted annually and wouldn’t be possible without the community support.

“I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the workers – they have been at it for months. They have gathered hay, planted flowers – it really was just a community effort,” explained Motes. “I’d also like to thank all the sponsors and the local businesses that donated door prizes. We couldn’t do this without them!”
