Homemakers show gratitude to FCSO

With an eye toward showing their appreciation, the Mountaintop Homemakers Club offered a luncheon to members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 27 and also presented a plaque to Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

“We’ve done this a couple of times,” said Secretary-Treasurer Sheila Hall. “We try to do it every so often, just to show our appreciation for what they do because they are always there for us.”

The Tuesday lunch boasted good Southern favorites like barbecue pork, chicken casserole, beans, slaw, cornbread and desserts at New Hope Methodist Church, where the club meets and hosts its annual bazaar, held the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year to raise funds for the club’s projects.

“Law enforcement in the news now – it seems like nobody cares. We want them to know we care,” President Kathy Snider said. “We’ve been wanting, for a long time, to show our appreciation for what they do.” With a husband who was a deputy and a police officer, Snider said she has a personal connection with law enforcement, strengthening her desire to show appreciation.

Snider and Hall started the Mountaintop Homemakers Club in 2002.

“We wanted to help people,” Hall said. “We’re a group of ladies who love the Lord and love to craft, and we put it to work helping others.”
