Red Devils drop another game

Vina takes on Meek Friday night on the road.

Vina takes on Meek Friday night on the road.

Vina lost another game on the gridiron, this time to the Meek Tigers by the score of 46-12.

With the loss, Vina moves to (1-4, 0-3) on the year, having lost four straight games. The Red Devils will look to get things back together as they host the Alabama School for the Deaf (1-4, 1-0) Friday for Homecoming.

The Red Devils started off the game strong, getting the first score by senior quarterback Tyler Renfrow on a 42-yard run to put Vina up 6-0, but they would only score six points rest of game as the Tigers cruised to a 46-12 win.

Meek answered back on the ensuing drive by marching right down the field to tie the game at seven apiece on a five-yard touchdown run by fullback John Mark Abercrombie.

“We have to play with more enthusiasm and more energy,” Coach Luke Childers said. “I think we’re going to come out more focused and ready to play on homecoming this week. We’ve got to get back to the basic fundamentals of the game and execute. We’re just going to do what we’ve been doing and get more focused for the rest of the year.”

Renfrow said the Red Devils did not come out prepared to play Friday night, and it showed.

“We were making bad reads and missing blocks on defense, and we couldn’t get anything going on offense,” Renfrow said. “For us to finish on a better note, we will have to play with more heart. That is something we lack from last year’s team.”
