Donna Lynn Phelps

Donna Lynn “Sunshine” Phelps of Severn, Md., passed away May 26 at her residence, at the age of 64. Donna was born Oct. 27, 1951, in Marietta, Ga.

 

Donna graduated in the class of ’70 at Phil Campbell High School, Phil Campbell. She was recruited to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C., working there for one year as a secretary. She became a proud Air Force wife in 1971 as her husband served with Air Force One. Following her work at the FBI, she was a secretary for Teen Challenge, DC, and then a pastor’s secretary at Evangel Assembly of God, Camp Springs, Md. In 1978, she began home daycare for families of Andrews AFB. She continued until 2006 when she retired from daycare business to take care of her grandchildren. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Donna always sought to care for her family in countless ways every day. She will be remembered for her genuine love for others, her well-told stories and her excellent cooking. Her love for God was poured into others along with her smiles as she served in hospitality ministry at Bridge Church, Annapolis.

Donna is survived by her husband of 45 years, Clarence William “Butch” Phelps Jr.; daughter, Beth Kreunen and her husband Chris; son, Bryan William Phelps and his wife Christie; seven grandchildren, Evey, Bekah, Kristi, Keri, C.J., Katelynn and Austin; two brothers, Richard Peppers and Larry Peppers; and sister, Wanda Peppers. Donna was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, several miscarried children, her mother, Cora Edna (Smith) Peppers, father, Melburn Peppers, and brother, Alton Peppers.

Donna’s family is finding comfort in the words of Isaiah 26:3-4: “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.” Family and friends will celebrate Donna’s life at Christ The King Church of Pasadena, 502 Victory Way, Pasadena, Md., June 1 at 11: a.m. A committal service will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, Md., at 1:45 p.m.
