Phil Campbells seek gracious hosts

Every town and city has its own version of a community festival. Phil Campbell has the Hoedown, and it’s unique in the number of people it draws who share the town’s name.

Men across the world named Phil Campbell have been making annual pilgrimages to Phil Campbell for years, and this year, some of these Phil Campbells are looking for a place to stay while in town.

“We’ve found one family that had a spare room and connected a Phil Campbell to that, and that made it possible for him to go,” explained Phil Campbell of Brooklyn. “We have some Phil Campbells who would love to see the Town of Phil Campbell,” – but the cost can be prohibitive.

Brooklyn Phil said about 15 Phils have committed to making it to the Hoedown this year, with more Phils still on the fence. Since many of the Phils have to travel long distances, paying for accommodation on top of travel expenses can be a challenge.

That’s why several Phils are hoping a few more locals would be willing to open their homes for a couple nights’ stay.

“It’s just a great idea to me. It’s all about community, and if folks are able – if they have an extra room – it just connects us even more,” Brooklyn Phil said.

Anyone who might be interested in hosting a Phil for the weekend, June 17-18, can email Brooklyn Phil at philcam@gmail.com, and he can coordinate.
