Pig Squeal set for April 30

The 4-H Pig Squeal Project is coming to a head, and 4-H’ers will be  showing off and selling the pigs they have been raising.

The Northwest Alabama 4-H Pig Squeal Show and Auction will be held April 30 at 10 a.m. at the Northwest Alabama Fairgrounds in Muscle Shoals.

The 4-H Pig Squeal Project teaches 4-H’ers management practices for growing and raising swine. Participants develop swine management skills, learn to produce healthy pigs, develop awareness of business management, develop record-keeping skills (income and expenses) and realize the pride of accomplishment.

During the show and auction, 4-H’ers will be judged in several classes and will have the opportunity to win prizes. Top prizes will be Showmanship Champion and Market Class Champion.

Interested buyers will also have the opportunity to purchase one or more of these market-ready hogs. For convenience, processors will be on site at the auction to take possession of purchased pigs; purchasers will have the opportunity to negotiate how the pigs are processed. Processing cost is in addition to the auction cost.
