Hailey Renfroe enters the courthouse for her preliminary hearing Monday.

In a preliminary hearing Monday, Hailey Renfroe, 20, of Phil Campbell, who was charged with aggravated child abuse in late March after the death of her 22-month-old daughter, the court found sufficient evidence to have her case bound over to the grand jury.

“We presented testimony from investigator Jason Holcombe,” explained assistant district attorney Jeff Barksdale. Judge Paula McDowell found probable cause, and the case will come before an upcoming grand jury.

Twenty-two month old Serenity was found dead with obvious signs of abuse, and Renfroe’s boyfriend, Shannon Dale Gargis, 28, Spruce Pine was charged with capital murder.
