Country Place Senior Living offers free lunch, seminar to senior veterans in Russellville

Country Place Senior Living of Hamilton and Winfield has partnered with Assisted Senior Benefits to bring area senior veterans and their families a free seminar to help bridge the information gap on what they qualify for as they grow older.

The lunch and seminar, set for April 12 from noon to 1 p.m., are free and open to the public. Reservations are encouraged but not required.

This event will be held at Hwy 43 Grill in Russellville. To RSVP, call Norma Tesseneer at 205-546-0373 or email ntesseneer@countryplaceseniorliving.net.

Jackie Stanford of Assisted Senior Benefits has spent more than 20 years assisting seniors and their families in securing veterans benefits. Country Place Senior Living of Hamilton and Winfield has partnered with Stanford, who will walk the group through the criteria of qualifying for veteran benefits, which can exceed $2,000 a month for senior living. Stanford has also committed to continue working with anyone who would require additional assistance after the seminar.

“When wartime veterans turn 65, the VA automatically classifies them as ‘totally disabled.’  If they meet income and asset criteria, they are eligible for a basic pension,” said Stanford, veteran benefits expert and founder of Assisted Senior Benefits. “So many seniors don’t know they qualify, or have never heard of this benefit before, and it can be life-changing to many. More than anything, I want everyone at the event to realize that this benefit is out there for veterans who enlisted in the armed forces during wartime and their spouses.”

The seminar is intended to help veterans, their spouses, children or caretakers learn how to obtain and take advantage of benefits as they age and the importance of understanding the exact benefits and how they can use the money earned for assistance with daily activities and healthcare needs.

“We want to honor our veterans in every way possible. They have given so much to our country,” said Cecile Godfrey, Country Place Senior Living regional manager for Alabama. “Offering this free informative seminar will help answer questions families may have and provide them with guidance when making financial decisions.”
