Church plans election prayer meeting

Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. is the date and time set for a special prayer meeting at Praise Tabernacle in Russellville focusing on the March 1 primary.

The idea for the prayer meeting, according to minister Bobby Stancil, came from the Lord.

“My wife, one morning, told me, ‘I had a dream last night that we prayed for the candidates.’ I said, ‘Well, that’s just a dream.’ But it stayed on my mind. I couldn’t get it off my mind,” he said.

So the prayer meeting became a reality. All Christians are invited; Stancil said there will be no endorsement of any candidate.

“Our nation needs prayer,” he said. He quoted II Chronicles 7, where the Lord says to Solomon, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

“Our nation was built on godly principles, and I feel we are slipping away from godly principles,” Stancil said. “I think our leaders have made some ungodly choices, unwise choices. We need to pray for Christian candidates to make right decisions – godly decisions.”

Praise Tabernacle is located at 12232 Highway 43 South in Russellville. Stancil said they hope for a large turnout.
