Schools cancel for Friday

Because of predicted inclement weather, Russellville City Schools and Franklin County Schools originally planned an early dismissal for today, Friday, but have now canceled.

City and county schools have both canceled school today in the face of likely winter weather.

Franklin County is expected to experience winter weather Friday following significant rainfall that began Thursday. According to information provided by the Franklin County EMA, cold air will rush into the region from the northwest. Coupled with intense precipitation, snow is expected to be heavy as it begins, although accumulation will be limited. As snow continues to fall, between 1-1.5 inches of accumulations are expect for this area.

“There is a high amount of uncertainty concerning the track of this storm system, with a small shift in track having a significant impact on snowfall accumulations,” reported the Franklin County EMA.

Hazardous traveling conditions are expected. Travelers are encouraged to exercise caution, and everyone is encouraged to be weather-aware.
