Belgreen 56, Vina 25
Belgreen used a strong third quarter to get a big area win and homecoming win against county-rival Vina last week.
Belgreen jumped out to an 18-10 first quarter lead over the Red Devils. Vina was able to limit the first half damage by staying close in the second quarter. Belgreen only outscored Vina 8-7 in the second to take a 26-17 halftime lead. The Bulldogs overwhelmed the Red Devils in the third quarter, outscoring Vina 26-4 to take 52-21 lead into the final period of play.
Allyson Bragwell and Brianna Wood led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 13 points, respectively. Others scoring for Belgreen were Jasmine Martin with nine points, Nicole Borden with eight points, Gabbie Moore with seven points and Johanna Oliver with two points in the win.
Emma Humphres led Vina with 15 points. Abby Hester added six points. Kaitlyn King and Annabelle Upton scored two points each.
Phil Campbell 71, Colbert Heights 53
The Phil Campbell Bobcats opened up a big first half lead with two strong quarters of play to help the get a win over the Colbert Height Wildcats.
Phil Campbell jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter advantage and extended their lead to 36-23 at the half. Colbert Heights closed the gap in the third quarters to 48-40, but the Bobcats scored 23 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Darby Elliot led the Bobcats with 19 points. Abby Davis added 17 points, and Chloe Roberson scored 14 points. Others scoring for Phil Campbell were Leah Gunderman with eight points, Harley Voyles with six points, Carley Nix four points and Elizabeth Benford three points.
Colbert Heights 49, Tharptown 43
A scoreless second quarter cost the Tharptown Wildcats a chance at win over Colbert Heights last week. Both teams battled to a 17-17 tie at the end of the first period of play. Colbert Heights was able to shut out Tharptown in the second quarter 12-0 to take a 29-17 halftime advantage. Tharptown outscored Colbert Heights in each of the final periods of play – 10-5 in the third quarter and 16-15 in the fourth quarter – but it was not enough to get the win.
Kaitlyn Vandiver led Tharptown with 20 points. Haley Malone followed with 15 points. Others scoring for the Lady Wildcats were Linda Bahena with four points, Jessica Wilson with three points and Klaudia Harris with two points.
Mars Hill 49, Tharptown 33
Tharptown lost their first area game of the season to the Mars Hill Panthers, 49-33. Mars Hill outscored Tharptown in each of the first three quarters to take a 38-19 advantage into the final period of play.
No players hit double figures for the Wildcats. Kaitlyn Vandiver scored nine points, Haley Malone scored eight points, Jessica Wilson added six points, and Klaudia Harris had four points. Linda Bahena, Catie Donner, and Debbie Gomez all had two points each.
East Lawrence 49, Tharptown 46
A fourth quarter comeback was not enough for the Tharptown Wildcats as they fell to the East Lawrence Eagles 49-46.
East Lawrence built a 42-31 lead over the first three quarters. Tharptown outscored East Lawrence 15-7 in the final period of play but came up three points short to secure overtime.
Kaitlyn Vandiver led the way for Tharptown with 20 points. Jessica Wilson added 12 points. Others knocking down points for the Wildcats were Haley Malone with eight points, Linda Bahena with four points and Klaudia Harris with two points.
