DYW program recognizes county women

The annual Northwest Alabama Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program was recently held Aug. 8 at Norton Auditorium on the campus of The University of North Alabama.

A total of 28 young women from Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties competed in scholastics, interview, fitness, talent and self expression categories, in a program organized entirely by volunteers and funded by sponsors.

Holly Hardin of Red Bay was selected as Franklin County’s 2016 Distinguished Young Woman and will represent Franklin County in the state program in January 2016, which feeds into the national program. Hardin was also selected as the winner of the self expression category.

Emili Crummie of Russellville was selected as the winner of the talent category. Kaitlin Burks of Red Bay was selected as the winner of the fitness and scholastic categories and was awarded 1st Alternate.  Elizabeth Benford of Phil Campbell was awarded 2nd Alternate.
