Ellison warns of potential scam

Franklin County Revenue Commissioner Gene Ellison said he wanted county residents to be aware of a potential scam plaguing the area.

Ellison said there is currently a recorded deed notice being sent to people locally from a group called Record Transfer Services based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., asking people to send $83 in order to obtain tax assessment information, legal descriptions, a parcel ID, and comparable values.

Ellison said residents should be aware that this information can be obtained for free at the revenue commissioner’s office and that no one should have to pay for this information.

Ellison said he believed this to be a scam to make people unsure of their property ownership and urged residents to disregard any letters or correspondence from this group.
