‘Movie in the Park’ set

The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the second annual “Movie in the Park” on Thursday, July 3, at John Blackwell Ball Park (Lee Complex) near Sloss Lake.

Games and other activities begin at 6 p.m. and the movie will start at 8 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Director Chad Sears said that the event is returning this year due to the reception it garnered last year.

“We are bringing it back because of popular demand,” Sears said.

“We had a great turnout last year and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We want to continue to do this if we can and make it an annual event and see it grow in popularity.”

Sears said the movie to be aired this year will be “The Lego Movie” and it will be shown on a 25-foot screen.

“We showed the Iron Bowl on the 25-foot screen back in the fall,” Sears said.

“We hope to do that again as well.”

The “Movie in the Park” event held at the Lee Complex is free admission for everyone and “all youth ministries are welcome to attend” according to a flyer for the event.

Sears said the event is a great lead-in to the Jam on Sloss Lake event on the Fourth of July each year.

“This is a good, family-oriented event that everyone can enjoy before the Fourth of July festivities start up,” Sears said.

“We want to show a G-rated movie, something good for the whole family, so everyone can come out.”
