RC&D awards grant to benefit Farm City Banquet

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) was recently awarded a $1,250 grant by the Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D) to be used to help fund the annual Farm-City Banquet hosted by Extension.

This popular banquet takes place yearly at a packed A.W. Todd Centre and seeks to educate the public about the coexistent relationship that between farms and cities.

“The Franklin County Farm-City Awards Banquet is the culmination of a month-long event where we recognize and honor the farmers and rural townspeople who make our nation’s agricultural system so prosperous. This includes not only those who grow the crops we all rely on, but also those who promote agriculture through education, hard work, and the way they live their lives. These people continually make Franklin County a better place to work and live,” said County Extension Coordinator Katernia Cole.

Roger Hayes, Chairman of the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council, said that “RC&D believes it’s important to honor those who provide us with the agricultural products we need to live. We also believe it’s important now more than ever for our young people to know where their food comes from.”

Hayes also expressed his appreciation to Senator Roger Bedford and Representative Johnny Mack Morrow who represent Franklin County’s District and provide support for the RC&D program in the State Legislature.
