Lady Golden Tigers beat Lady Indians

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers picked up another win by beating the Colbert County Lady Indians 49-37 at home on Thursday night.

The Lady Golden Tigers led the majority of the match and were never in trouble of losing the lead.

“We got a win out of it,” Russellville head coach James Bostick said. “That’s what matters.”

Amber Elliott started Russellville of on the right foot by hitting a layup to put the Lady Golden Tigers up 2-0 just 15 seconds into the game.

Colbert County answered with a field goal of its own, tying the game at 2-2.

That would be as close to the lead as the Lady Indians would come in the contest.

Russellville led 8-6 by the end of the first. The Lady Golden Tigers went on a 9-2 run in the first two minutes and 15 seconds of the second quarter to take a 17-8 lead.

Russellville outscored Colbert County 19-8 in the second, giving the Lady Golden Tigers a 27-14 lead at the break.

“You can’t take any teams lightly this time of year,” Bostick said.

Russellville had a 10-point lead at 34-24 with 3:00 remaining in the third. The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Golden Tigers 13-11 in the quarter, but Russellville’s lead kept it ahead 38-27 at the end of three.

The Lady Golden Tigers finished strong in the fourth quarter, allowing Russellville to pick up the 12-point victory.

“We are looking forward to the game with Lawrence County to start the area tournament,” Bostick said. “That’s all that matters right now.”

Ashley Dunstan had a great performance Thursday night. She led the Lady Golden Tigers with 23 points on the night.

Elliott picked up 12 points, and Ayanna McCullough had 5. Also scoring for Russellville were Victoria Jackson (4), Rachel Garrison (3) and Taylor Smith (2).

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers will finish out the 2012 regular season with a home game against Tanner on Monday night.
