J.R. Tidwell/FCT The Red Bay Tigers B-team stands with their first place trophy after beating Phil Campbell on Saturday night. Head coach Greg Cash is pictured with the team, which needed two overtimes to top the Bobcats.

The Red Bay Tigers and Phil Campbell Bobcats beat out the competition to meet in the B-team Boy’s final of the Franklin County Basketball Tournament.

The teams were too evenly matched to decide the contest in four quarters, but the Tigers finally won 39-37 in the second overtime.

Phil Campbell had the lead for most of the game, posting a 21-20 lead by halftime.

Austin Jones hit a lay-up at the buzzer to put Phil Campbell on top 25-23 at the end of the third.

The Bobcats pulled ahead by eight points with 4:20 remaining in regulation, but Red Bay battled back to close the gap.

Clay McNatt hit a long 2 followed by a 3-pointer by Colt Hardin for the Tigers. Red Bay was then down 32-29, but a 3-pointer by Bradley Brooks tied the game at 32 each.

This score remained at the end of regulation, sending the teams into overtime.

Jones hit two free throws for Phil Campbell, but Barry Reach hit two of his own for Red Bay.

The Bobcats went up 37-34 after a 3-pointer by Brady Whitten, but Zach Garrett answered with a 3 of his own for Red Bay, tying the game at 37-37 to end the first overtime.

Neither team could put points on the board in the second overtime period, but Barry Reach of the Tigers hit a lay-up as time expired to give Red Bay the win.
