Joe P. Berry, 74, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at St. John Medical Center in Westlake, Ohio.

He was a native of Vina. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving 1958-1961 in the Nike Missile Defense Program. He was a diesel mechanic with International Harvester Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, and was shop foreman for two years. In 1963 he started his own business, Joe’s Towing, and he towed from Florida to New York and from the east coast to Arkansas.     

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec.11, 2011, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. Rick Murrell officiating. Burial was in Halltown Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Batdorf Berry, of Cleveland, Ohio; one son, John Berry and his wife, Michele, of Parma Heights, Ohio; one daughter, Shari Rivera, of Brookpark, Ohio; son-in-law, Bobby Hacker, of Vina; two brothers, Johnny Berry and his wife, Alice, and Don Berry and his wife, Joy, all of Red Bay; two sisters, Brenda Berry Bridges, of Tupelo, Miss., and Charlotte Johnson, of Goose Creek, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Scott Berry, Shawn Berry, Jason Hacker, Ryan Rivera, Russell Rivera, Rachel Rivera and Alexis Rivera; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Nelson Berry; a daughter, Carla Hacker, and a grandson, Joe Hacker.

Pallbearers were Anthony Page, Dana Johnson, Lee Page, Greg Bridges, Charles Berry and Lee Berry.
