Fire safety education should be continued in the home

The Russellville Fire Department is teaming with other local fire departments throughout the county to help educate residents about fire safety.

The departments will visit schools in the county to teach children how to recognize fire hazards and what to do in the event a fire breaks out. They will also offer classes at local businesses.

The Franklin County Times commends the local fire departments for their continued efforts to promote fire safety and educating residents about how to respond to fires.

With luck these efforts will decrease the number of fires in Franklin County as well as serious or fatal injuries caused by fires.

While the efforts of the fire departments are a strong start, it is also important for parents to talk with their children about fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire. Since each home is different, The Franklin County Times urges parents to take time to teach their children evacuation routes in case a fire develops in their home. Parents should also quiz children about fire safety from time to time to make sure their children know what actions to take in the event of an emergency.

A good education could is the best way to avert a disaster.
