Tharptown scorched by Flame

FLORENCE — Tharptown’s offense put together its best game of the season as the Wildcats scored 37 points, but the defense faltered as Shoals Christian rolled to a 59-37 victory.

Tharptown (0-4, 0-3) had the game tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter, but Shoals Christian pulled away as the Flame improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in region play.

Kelby Hallmark had 231 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. Edgar Bahena led the Wildcats with seven receptions for 171 yards.

While the Tharptown offense was able to put its highest point total of the season on the scoreboard, it did commit four turnovers.

Shoals Christian used a strong running game to rack up 681 yards of total offense against the Wildcats. The Flame had 512 rushing yards during the game.

Tharptown travels to Valley Head next week in a non-region game. The Wildcats will return to region play Sept. 30 when the Wildcats host Hackleburg.
