Vina unable to overcome early deficit

VINA — Hackleburg’s offense proved too much for Vina as the Panthers scored four touchdowns in the first half on their way to a 39-6 victory against the Red Devils.

Trailing 25-0, Vina’s Nick Schmittou connected with Cody Renfrow on a 62-yard touchdown pass with 4:36 remaining in the second quarter to put the Red Devils on the board.

Hackleburg added two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

Schmittou completed 3-of-6 passes for 73 yards, rushed for 10 yards and led the Red Devils with 13 tackles.

Renfrow led the Vina receivers with 63 yards on two catches and had 10 rushing yards. Ethan Pharr led the Red Devils with 21 rushing yards.

Tyler Hammock recorded five tackles while Clay Pierce recorded four tackles.

Vina will travel to Addison next week.
