Commission recognized by state for excellence

Once again the Franklin County Commission has demonstrated its dedication to serving the citizens of the county in an expedient and efficient manner, earning recognition for its efforts.

Instead of allowing the 2010 Census to be done half-heartedly and allowing potential federal and state funding from leaving the county, the commission implemented a plan to ensure the most accurate census count possible.

The result was an additional 1,146 residents counted in Franklin County, which will account for more than $11 million in federal and state funding for the county through 2020.

Through this diligence, the commission earned the 20th Annual Award for Excellence in County Government by the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama. This award shows area citizens that there are hard working officials doing the best they can to keep Franklin County a great place to live.

The Franklin County Times wishes to extend our congratulations to the commission and hope that it will continue to live up to the standard it has set for itself for many years to come.
