Post office flag pole restored with donation

Just like the rest of downtown Russellville, the flagpole in front of the Russellville post office received a much-needed facelift thanks to two local residents.

James Wilson, commander of the American Legion Post 64, and Russellville Fire Chief Joe Mansell made donations to make sure the pole received a new coat of paint.

Wilson said the donations were necessary because the post office didn’t currently have the funding to have the project done.

Wilson said he was glad to help because the post office had been kind enough to donate a mailbox for the American Legion to use as a drop box for old American flags to be disposed of properly. The drop box is located in front of the Franklin County Courthouse.

“We appreciate Mr. Wilson and Chief Mansell making these donations,” Postmaster Earl Wilcher said.

The work was completed by independent painter Russell Tucker from Birmingham.
