Second victim of boating accident found

The body of a second man killed in a boating accident Tuesday was found early Thursday morning in an area that searchers had been concentrating on.

Authorities said the body of Billy Harris, 62, of Bear Creek, was discovered by Alabama Marine Police about 6:30 a.m.

Harris had not been seen since the boat he was fishing from lost control after a mechanical error Tuesday morning. The body of Harris’ brother, Jerry Harris, 64, of Haleyville, was found near the shore shortly after the accident Tuesday.

Another man, Wayne Armstrong, 66, of Haleyville, was able to swim to shore and contact authorities. He is recovering in Russellville Hospital.

According to authorities, the three men were fishing in a flat bottom boat when a mechanical malfunction caused the boat to lose control and began turning in circles. All three men were thrown from the boat before it crashed on to the shore. The accident happened on Cummings Creek near Mon Dye Bottoms.
