Woman charged in wreck that killed 15 month-old

A Franklin County woman has been charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter for her role in a weekend car wreck that killed a 15-month old child, Alabama state troopers said.

According to investigators, Donna Huckaba, 42, of Phil Campbell, was driving a 2004 Ford when it collided with a 2007 Ford driven by Norma Torres, 36, of Phil Campbell, about 10:45 p.m. Saturday on Franklin 34.

Fifteen month-old Angela Mejias was killed in the crash. Investigators said she was in a car safety seat in the backseat of the vehicle driven by Torres when the wreck occurred.

A 14 year-old passenger in that same vehicle was also injured. Jennifer Carreto, 14, of Russellville, was injured in the wreck and was treated at an area hospital. Neither Torres or Huckaba were injured.

Troopers said the accident is still under investigation. No information was available concerning the amount of alcohol in Huckaba’s system at the time of the crash.
