Arrest made in weekend burglary

A Russellville man was arrested on Sunday after items from a recent vehicle break-in were discovered in his possession.

Matthew Justin O’Neal, 26, 1713 Wilson Blvd., Russellville, was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and second-degree theft of property, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, the owner of a local business called the police department Sunday morning to report items had been stolen from his vehicle, which was parked outside the business.

The victim stated he left his vehicle outside the business Saturday evening after it had been returned from the mechanic. When the victim returned to his business Sunday morning about 5 a.m., he noticed the door of his vehicle was ajar.

Hargett said the victim noticed some electronics and several hundred dollars in cash were missing from his vehicle and called the police department to make a report.

“From video surveillance we were able to develop O’Neal as a suspect in the break-in,” Hargett said. “When he was questioned on Sunday morning, officers discovered some of the stolen items in the trunk of O’Neal’s car and made the arrest.”
