City man arrested on drug charges

Following an investigation that involved several agencies, a Russellville man was arrested Thursday on drugs charges.

Douglas Michael Williams, 58, 8221 Franklin 49, Russellville, is charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.

Oliver said the investigation involving Williams was active for several months and involved the sheriff’s office, the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, the Colbert County Drug Task Force, Russellville Police Department, Franklin County District Attorney’s office and agents with the Alabama Beverage Control Board.

Officials said agents searched Williams’ residence in Franklin County and a house under construction at 1548 Underwood Mountain Road, Tuscumbia.

Investigators said he was not at the home in Franklin County, but they found him at the Underwood Mountain Road residence, where they took him into custody.

Oliver said officials found 10 grams of methamphetamine, which has a street value of $1,000, pills, digital scales, $3,000, and numerous drug paraphernalia.

Investigators also seized a .22-caliber pistol, a travel camper and a 2002 Ford pick-up truck.

Williams is being held in the Colbert County Jail and has pending felony drug charges in Franklin County, authorities said.
