Haleyville man charged with sexually abusing 6 year-old

PHIL CAMPBELL – Authorities arrested a Haleyville man on Tuesday after a six-year-old girl told her mother he had sexually abused her.

Renaldo Diaz Perez, 47, 2706 Alabama Ave., Haleyville, was arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 and enticing a child, both felony charges.

According to Phil Campbell Police Sgt. Terrell Potter, the mother of the six-year-old victim came to the police station on Monday evening to file a complaint after her daughter told her about the abuse.

Potter said they notified the Franklin County Department of Human Resources and set up and interview with the victim when her mother brought the girl back to the police station on Tuesday.

Potter said the victim indicated the abuse had taken place in Phil Campbell and Haleyville.

Based on the interview, Potter said the Phil Campbell police department obtained a warrant for Perez’s arrest and arrested him at his home in Haleyville on Tuesday.

The Phil Campbell investigation is still ongoing and Potter said charges in Haleyville could also be pending.

Perez remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
